CEI was contracted to remediate a FLETC Outdoor Firing Range in Artesia, New Mexico. The berm wall area was excavated and placed into a Power Screening/Lead Reclamation equipment. This equipment used a series of stacked vibrating screens of different mesh size. The excavated soil was allowed to pass through a standard 3/16 inch screen to remove the large particles. Soils screened out as being too big were re-screened to ensure recovery of lead.
Metal lead fragments were loaded into dump trucks for off-site transport to the appropriate disposal or recycling facility. All transportation containers were tarped, manifested, and placarded in accordance with appropriate Resource, Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) requirements before leaving the Site. Metal lead fragments removed through sifting were stockpiled and recycled by a licensed contractor, The Doe Run Company, Inc, located in Boss, Missouri.
