CEI prepared a Corrective Action Plan (CAP) and Engineering Design Plans at the Hammocks Community Park (HCP). The park belongs to the Miami-Dade County Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department (PROS). The scope of work was conducted to address the arsenic-contaminated soils at HCP with a 12-inch clean fill cover. A previous investigation of the soil within the boundaries of Hammocks Community Park revealed arsenic concentrations above the screening criteria in the upper two feet of soils across the grass area of the entire park. A consultation with the Miami-Dade County Health Department/Florida Department of Health concluded that the documented arsenic concentrations represented a very low increase in potential cancer risk. However, in an abundance of caution to reduce potential risks to park users, RER required the installation of a minimum of 12 inches of clean fill over the arsenic impacted soils.
