Devon Aire Park Source Removal

Soil source removals (SR) were conducted on 4 separate areas of arsenic contamination near a baseball diamond and open playing fields at Devon Aire Park. The source removal consisted of surveying the area to mark the locations of the excavations and to collect surface elevations, excavating the top 1 foot of soil from each of the four areas (estimated at 26,963 square feet; 1,848 square feet; 1,552 square feet and 3,482 square feet), resurveying the elevations to confirm 1 foot removal, placement of a high visibility non-woven geotextile liner over each excavation, followed by clean backfill material and sod. All work areas were secured with chain-link fencing and screens. A Source Removal Report submitted to DERM documents the source removal activities and includes supporting tables, figures, survey, manifests and clean fill tickets. Project challenges included maintaining the park open and for use by the adjacent elementary school and working during the rainy season which included numerous downpours and Hurricane Irma.
