The Canal Conveyance Capacity Program (CCCP) is a component of the Operation and Maintenance Program which identifies canals, levees, and project culverts requiring repair or maintenance. Under this CCCP, CEI was tasked by the SFWMD to evaluate seven canals in the West Palm Beach and Clewiston Field Station Areas, and twelve project culverts in the Clewiston, West Palm Beach, Okeechobee, and Kissimmee Field Station Areas.
The canals were initially evaluated by researching historical SFWMD and US Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) design and as-built drawings. These canal design standards were then verified by field methods including surveying and field reconnaissance. Canal centerline profile surveys and canal cross sections were completed, and plotted against the USACE original design criteria.
CEI conducted field reconnaissance to observe canal bank conditions and other potential impedances to the canal’s original design function of drainage and flood control. The surveying and field reconnaissance data was used to compare and contrast the current capacity against the canal’s original design standards.
